About

Multimedia Database Laboratory, established in 2006 at Computer Engineering Department of Middle East Technical University, is intended for enabling new research facilities in multimedia database area. The hardware and software infrastructure is continually kept up-to-date.

SECEVideo

In recent years, due to the developments in information and communication technologies, usage of videos increases rapidly and extracting semantic information and querying them for the videos become a requirement in daily life. Storing and querying videos with only limited information such as name, record date or resolution are not enough to answer user’s requirements. There is a demand about extracting video’s semantic information, storing in a database and accessing efficiently to the related video parts when there is a requirement. Semantic information/content means objects, events, object-object relationships, object-event relationships, event-event relationships existing in video parts. Nowadays extracting semantic information is done manually by the users. However, manual information extraction is inefficient, difficult and expensive method where there may exists subjective information extraction according to different users. Hence automatic information extraction becomes unavoidable. Extracting semantic information is one of the hot topics and it is predicted that the researches is going to increase in the future.

FOOMM

(Fuzzy Object Oriented MultiMedia Database Design and Development)

For complex information dense applications, it is seriously required to develop environment that enables flexible and powerful modeling and allows querying the stored data and information in a fast and easy manner. The object oriented database model offers the appropriate media for modelling complex applications. On the other side, knowledge-based systems are able to generate meaningful new information for the users by using the available data. By combining these two models, it is possible to create pretty strong modeling environments that are usable in many complex applications.
